Gruss Gott and Wilkommen to the Website of ….. The Schuhplattler Verein “Edelweiss” of Chicago. We are a club of young and old, Germans and non-Germans who are dedicated to the performance of the traditional folk dances (Schuhplattler and Volkstaenze) and music, and preservation of the costumes (Tracht), traditions and customs of Bavaria and the Tyrol. We were founded in May of 1914 and are the oldest Club (Verein) of this type in North America. We meet monthly for business meetings as well as social get-togethers, practices (Plattler Probe). Our Adult Dance group performs regularly throughout the year at various events in the Chicago and suburban area. We perform at events in the German community, Oktoberfests, Christkindlmarkts, weddings, private and corporate parties and at local restaurants. We are a kid-friendly organization and have recently formed a Kinder Gruppe (Children’s Dance Group). Our Club is currently seeking new members. If you are interested in Bavarian and Tyrolean dance, music or culture, please join us. If you are interested in attending a performance, or for more information, please contact us. Please visit us again for details on our upcoming Spring Dance and other events.
